The Eaton’s van arrived as expected. By mid-morning, Hank and I were waiting at the turn-off from the main road. We ran alongside as the driver drove slowly to the Point. Then he and Grandpa slid my new boat in at its mooring behind the Robin. It was a flat-bottomed skiff, dark green with red trim… At long last I could drift a baited line over haunts I could never have reached by casting. Earlier I had been obliged to rely on Granny or Grandpa, or occasionally on Hank when Bébert loaned him a boat. But now the irresistible reefs and reed beds became regular stops on my daily round. My new freedom was thrilling. (pages 49-50)
